What is SMSC?
SMSC stands for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. All schools in England must show how well their pupils develop in SMSC.
Spiritual - Moral - Social - Cultural
Explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world; use imagination and creativity; reflect.
We use the PATHS programme (Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies) in PSHE. The main aims of this programme involves helping children to:
- recognise emotions and values
- make constructive choices about personal and social behaviour
- show understanding and empathy for others
The PATHS® curriculum is a comprehensive programme for promoting emotional and social competencies and reducing aggression and behaviour problems in primary school-aged children while simultaneously enhancing the educational process in and out of the classroom. This innovative curriculum is designed to be used by educators in a multi-year, universal prevention model. Although primarily focused on the school and classroom settings, information and activities are also included for use with parents. At Oasis Academy Woodview, we pride ourselves on delivering an innovative curriculum that encompasses the ‘whole’ child.
